There is a full list of fixtures in and around the county and in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League we are back to a full programme after the Christmas break and the next rounds of the County Cup. So let’s take a look at this weekend’s scheduled action.
In Division One it’s top vs bottom as Sharpness host FC Barometrics – with both sides in desperate need of three points. For the leaders, they will end the day top of the league regardless – unless Chalford can overhaul a goal difference of +9 in their fixture away at Quedgeley Wanderers.
Quedgeley can move into the top half whilst Chalford can move level on points with Sharpness, but will still have three games in hand.
For the second week running 3rd placed Charlton Rovers take on 4th place, with this weekend’s opposition coming in the form of Harrow Hill. Both sides could potentially leapfrog Chalford into second with a win and if Chalford’s unbeaten start is brought to an end.
Tuffley Rovers Reserves could also leap up to second if Chalford lose and Rovers put a few past Whaddon United. However, Whaddon are made of sterner stuff these days and are looking for a hattrick of victories after last weekend’s 2-1 at FC Barometrics.
Whaddon can’t improve on their 14th place in the table but they can close the gap to the mid table pack to as little as 1 point.
Leonard Stanley can move to within a point of Whaddon if United lose and Stanley can stop the free scoring Welland.
Brockworth Albion welcome Berkeley Town, Longlevens Reserves host Taverners and Cam Bulldogs entertain Upton St Leonards in the three other games in Division One as they jockey for position within the upper to lower midtable.
In Division Two, top of the league Woolaston will look to maintain their 11 point lead at the summit as 2nd and 3rd placed Cheltenham Civil Service and Whitecroft return to league action.
Woolaston look to build on their recent form when they host FC Lakeside whilst Cheltenham Civil Service welcome Abbeymead Rovers and Whitecroft travel to Winchcombe Town. All three sides have winnable games, yet games that can prove to be banana skins.
Bredon will stay 4th despite being the side who don’t have a game this week due to their superior goal difference but the winner of 5th vs 6th – English Bicknor vs Frampton United Reserves, will go level on points with the Worcestershire side.
Falcons travel to Lydney Town Reserves where the winner will move up a place in the table, whilst Smiths Athletic can move up two places and above Lydney into 11th if they can defeat 14th placed Lydbrook Athletic.
Barnwood United can move up into the top half of the table if they can beat bottom placed Bibury. However, United haven’t won in 7 whilst Bibury haven’t won in 5 games. The hosts are the draw specialists in the whole league, with 7 draws from their 16 league games.
Barnwood will be without player/assistant manager Craig Salter who limped off against Woolaston last weekend with a suspected knee ligament injury.
It is sure to be another great afternoon of action in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League as we kick on into the business end of the campaign.
