“I didn’t want to see City go down without a fight” – Zack Kotwica talks to Severn Sport about return

This week has been a week of constant change for Gloucester City, with a new management team installed and the revolving door of personnel has kept going today.

Earlier on the Tigers announced that Zack Kotwica had signed a deal to return to his hometown club, along with the return of Fabien Robert on loan until the end of the season and the signings of Harry Hodges & Ryan Law on one month loans.

Kotwica has spoken exclusively to Severn Sport about returning to the club until the end of the 2019/20 season and is looking ahead to helping City escape the prospect of relegation from the National League.

“It feels amazing to be back. I wish I had never left in the first place. This club has always been at my heart, ever since I first came on loan from Cheltenham Town. Now I’m back I can’t wait to get stuck in and fight and scrap to keep the club where it belongs.

What made me come back? Being honest, seeing the results Gloucester were getting lately breaks my heart. It’s my home city and I don’t want to see City go down without a fight and for me to be part of the that fight, with the new staff in charge and all the lads in the changing room, it was a no brainer!”

The forward first joined Gloucester on loan in the 2013/14 before a loan spell at Cirencester Town. Kotwica returned for the 2016/17 season, which saw him score 13 goals in 33 appearances in what ended up being a historical season for the Tigers.

Whilst discussing his previous stint at Gloucester City, Kotwica picked his favourite goal and discussed that incredible season.

“My favourite memories have to be the hattrick I scored at home against Alfreton Town. That and the game against Stockport County away. The goal topped it all. Also, the game against FC United of Manchester will always stick with me as well because it was our best team performance all season.”

Most importantly for all Severn Sport fans, Kotwica hasn’t ruled out a return of former Champions ‘On The Outside’ to the Severn Sport Tipster League for the Cheltenham Festival in March.
