This weekend sees a reduced number of games in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League due to the Quarter Finals of the GFA Senior Amateur (North) Cup, but there are still plenty of games to keep us going.
Firstly in Division One all eyes will be on Glevum Park, where 3rd placed Tuffley Rovers Reserves entertain 4th placed Charlton Rovers in a game that could see the visitors go joint second in the league. A win for the hosts will see them move above last season’s Champions into 3rd.
This is due to the fact the top two sides, Sharpness & Chalford, are in GFA Amateur Cup Quarter Final action. The league leaders Sharpness travel to Smiths Athletic of Division Two, whilst Chalford travel to fellow Division One side Longlevens Reserves.
Elsewhere in the league Harrow Hill take on Welland in a game that sees two of the league’s highest scoring sides face off. There have been 89 league goals between the two of them, with Welland one shy of 50 for the campaign. If Harrow Hill win and Tuffley fail to do the same, then they will leapfrog Rovers into 4th. Welland can move from 9th to 6th with a win.
Cam Bulldogs vs Berkeley Town and Upton St Leonards vs Quedgeley Wanderers sees the mid to lower mid table sides go head to head as they all look for points to get as near to the top half as possible,
Arguably the big game of the day is at the bottom of the league, with bottom side FC Barometrics entertaining Whaddon United. The visitors moved off the bottom last weekend thanks to a 2-0 win over Taverners, but they can end the day back on the foot of the table if Baros take the points and Leonard Stanley can defeat Brockworth Albion in the Division’s other game.
There are only four fixtures in Division Two due to the GFA Cup ties and this weekend is a great opportunity for leaders Woolaston to extend their lead at the top to 11 points as their chasing pack of Whitecroft and Cheltenham Civil Service are in cup action.
Woolaston travel to Gloucester to take on draw specialists Barnwood United. From their 15 league games so far United have drawn 7 whilst losing and winning 4 games each. The hosts can move up a place to 8th with a win.
Whitecroft and Civil Service both take on Hellenic League opposition on Saturday, as they take on Moreton Rangers and Bourton Rovers respectively. They could both drop a place during their week off from league action if Bredon can beat English Bicknor. Bredon, who currently occupy 4th place, come into the game on the back of three wins on the spin – where they have clocked up 13 goals in that time.
Frampton United Reserves can move into 5th place with a win over Lydbrook Athletic, who themselves can leap frog Smiths Athletic who as previously mentioned take on Sharpness in the cup.
Lydbrook and Winchcombe Town can both pull away from bottom club Bibury who aren’t in action. Winchcombe travel to Falcons, who like Frampton can move up to 5th depending on results.
