Bevan looking to give County Cup a go ahead of GFA Trophy Quarter Final

Fairford Town manager Jody Bevan will be looking to field a strong side capable of getting through to the GFA Trophy Semi Final tomorrow night and has told Severn Sport that the Robins are in it to win it.

Fairford, who currently sit 9th in the Hellenic Premier after Saturday’s 1-0 win against Ardley United, take on their Gloucestershire County League counterparts at Cinder Lane on Tuesday night and Bevan admits that whilst the competition isn’t the main priority for his side, they will be taking their Quarter Final very seriously.

“The GFA Trophy is not going to define our season but it is our best chance to win something this season. I am taking it seriously and of course like every game we play, we want to win on Tuesday night.”

Bevan’s men will go into their tie with Henbury as favourites after a first half of the season that has seen them win more games of football than they achieved throughout the whole of last season and they will be looking to make it three wins from three in all competitions after a Boxing Day win at Brimscombe & Thrupp and the win over Ardley.

Tuesday’s visitors Henbury come into the game with just one win in their last six games and that was their GFA Trophy win against fellow County League side AEK Boko. Bevan admits he doesn’t know too much about the visitors but has been able to get an idea from Assistant Jamie Reid.

“Personally I know very little. Jamie Reid has a much better idea due to his time at Hardwicke so I’ve been able to get some insight from him. We expect a physical challenge and we expect them to raise their game from their recent league form. We have found out that in cup competition league form tends to go out of the window.”

Despite winning two on the bounce Bevan admitted he will be required to make changes due to injuries and ineligibility of some players but he has told us that Fairford will be going into the game with a “strong line-up.”

The winner of Tuesday night’s Quarter Final will face the winner of Cribbs vs Cadbury Heath in the Semi Final. The two Western League side’s play their Quarter Final on Tuesday 15th January.

Fairford Town vs Henbury in the GFA Trophy kicks off on Tuesday night at 19:45 at Cinder Lane.
