Severn Sport 12 Days of Christmas – Day 12: Martin’s late winner, The Reg Davis Cup Final & Bloomfield Hattrick in Best of 18/19

It was Christmas Eve, babe…and to celebrate we are capping off the Severn Sport 12 Days of Christmas with a look back at Ryan’s top 3 commentaries from the 2018/19 season so far.

We have had a wonderful calendar year in 2018, with landmark moments in our history and it gives us a platform to expand in 2019. One of the main reasons was down to the quality of football on show. The commentaries selected are from three different levels of the game and showcases everything good about football in Gloucestershire.

Stoppage time Craig Martin goal sees Longlevens win at Tuffley Rovers

Longlevens player/assistant manager Craig Martin scored with the last kick of the game to clinch his side’s first league win of the season and it came at the home of local rivals Tuffley Rovers.

The game was competitive and lively, with both sides looking to take all three points for the first time this campaign. It looked destined for a draw until Logan Roach’s glorious ball in to Martin at the back post, who slotted in a vital winner.

FC Barometrics beat English Bicknor on penalties to win Reg Davis Cup Final

A young FC Barometrics side lifted the Reg Davis Cup after a marathon match at Slimbridge’s Thornhill Park with English Bicknor went all the way through to penalties. There was nothing between the two sides after the game finished 1-1 after 120 minutes; with Baros edging out Bicknor 5-4 on penalties.

This game was always going to be involved in the 12 Days of Christmas for the simple fact that it was the first cup final we have commentated on – not including the Severn Sport Shield of course. But it also went to penalties. During the summer we mentioned on social media that we hadn’t seen a penalty shoot-out live and even though Ryan saw one earlier on in the Reg Davis cup – between Brockworth Albion and Barnwood United, we hadn’t had the opportunity to commentate on a penalty shoot-out… that, was until the final in September.

Bloomfield hattrick the difference as Young Swans advance in County Cup

Adam Bloomfield netted a hattrick as Slimbridge U18s saw off their Tuffley Rovers counterparts in the GFA U18s Shield at Glevum Park, with the visitors winning 3-0 against a Tuffley side that ended with ten men. The two sides met for the second time in cup football this season, after being drawn against each other in the FA Youth Cup back in September.

The game makes the list as it was a lesson in clinical finishing and sustained attacking play from Slimbridge. The Young Swans side are one of the most impressive sides in and around the county this season and with Adam Bloomfield they have an absolute revelation in their ranks.
