Today is the penultimate day in the 12 Days of Christmas here at Severn Sport and we continue to look back through the vault. There was one aspect of our recent history that had to make the list and we find ourselves at Slimbridge’s Thornhill Park for the first ever Severn Sport Shield Pre-season tournament.
Firstly, if you missed Day 10 and Gloucester City’s derby day supremacy, revisit it here.
Now in the tournament both semi finals finished 2-0 to the “away side” setting up a Gloucester City vs Longlevens final, which followed Slimbridge vs Tuffley Rovers in the third place play off.
On the finals day we saw Slimbridge run out 6-1 winners in the Third Place Playoff against Tuffley Rovers; whilst Gloucester City took home the Shield, thanks to a 4-2 win against a game Longlevens side.
Now to re-live the best bits. Listen to the montage below, including backing tracks from Cheltenham-based band Crying Wolf & Swindon-based band Yves.
You have heard the best bits and the finals day, now read about it. The full report from the finals day can be read here.
Off the back of the tournament, we also named our team of the tournament. In typical Severn Sport team of the month style we name the full squad of players who impressed us over the course of the week. View it here.
What a week it was!
Now, to give you a bit of news. We currently have 3 out of the 4 sides confirmed for the 2019 Severn Sport Shield and we will be confirming the participants in the New Year. All eyes will be on Tuffley Rovers’ Glevum Park for another week of local competitive non-league football.
Tomorrow is Day 12 and the final day of our look at previous games and content here on Severn Sport. We are ending with a look back at Ryan’s commentary of the season so far. All will be revealed tomorrow.
