We are moving onto Day 7 of our 12 Days of Christmas countdown and we are continuing to look back in the Severn Sport vault, today we look back at Longlevens’ FA Vase run from last season.
Firstly, if you missed Day 6 yesterday, take a look at our time at SportBeat Festival 2013 right here.
Longlevens were going into the game at Ardley United having never won a game in the competition and would be going head to head against a side who ended up romping home with the Hellenic League Division One West Title.
Shaun O’Connor diverted a Brad Vanstone shot into the net just before half time. O’Connor doubled Levens’ lead before Ardley decided to make a good go of it. Alex Feaver pulled one back before Dave Merrick restored the two goal cushion.
The end to end second half saw Ardley score a second through Connor Harris and then the inform Jay Kennedy rifled one home from nearly 30 yards to secure the win and secure the historical moment in Longlevens’ history.
Longlevens would go on to beat Tytherington Rocks in the next round as they reached the 1st Round proper of the FA Vase in a run that will always be remembered as the first time Levens managed the feat.
Ultimately they would end up losing 2-1 away at Sevenoaks Town but the Vase run of 2017 was a special moment in Longlevens’ history.
The matches against Ardley United & Sevenoaks Town even made our top 10 games of the season list for the 2017/18 season.
You can listen to the games in full below.
