Severn Sport 12 Days of Christmas – Day 5: Hopper hattrick as City put on 5 star display in 2016

Today marks day 5 of the Severn Sport 12 Days of Christmas and today we have a Gloucester City blast from the past with forward Luke Hopper taking centre stage.

Before we get into it though, a reminder that if you missed day 4 – take a look at Brimscombe & Thrupp’s 3-0 win over Royal Wootton Bassett from last season right here.

Now let us go back to 2016. The infamous Gloucester City season of 2016/17, the final season at Cheltenham Town’s Whaddon Road and the final season (as it stands) in the National League North for the Tigers.

Tim Harris’ men had started the season very well and were starting to find their stride in a season that saw them achieve their highest league position to date.

On Saturday 10th September they welcomed Altrincham to Whaddon Road and were in search of another win. Two first half strikes put them 2-0 up at half time thanks to Chris Knowles and Joe Parker, before Luke Hopper took over with a 10 minute hattrick in the second half.

The performance and commentary was so good that it was nominated by Kelsey De Maria as his commentary of the season. Take a listen to the highlights below and re-live a wonderful afternoon for the Tim Harris and his Tigers.

Don’t miss out on day 6 of the Severn Sport 12 Days of Christmas tomorrow as we continue to take a look in the Severn Sport vault. Tomorrow we take a break from the football to take a look at Sportbeat Festival 2013.
