After a horrendous day weather wise today’s 12 Days of Christmas look into the Severn Sport vault takes us to one of the most unique grounds in the county and one of our favourite vantage points ever, The Meadow.
Firstly, if you missed Day 3 and Ben Whitehead’s last minute winner against Paulton Rovers then check it out here.
Today we take a trip back 14 months to our live game from October 2017, Brimscombe & Thrupp vs Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the Hellenic Premier. Like yesterday’s post, we were joined in the gantry by a special guest commentator.
Joined by Longlevens centre half Luke Kavanagh on commentary and Kelsey De Maria on social media, the team witnessed an excellent display of football on the notorious sloping pitch.
After taking the lead inside two minutes courtesy of Sam Blackie, Brimscombe controlled the first half, before Blackie added to his tally just before half-time.
The second half was much the same, with the hosts asserting themselves on their opponents, who had won nine on the spin before coming up against the in-form Lilywhites.
Down by two and facing a literal uphill task, the visitors committed men forward only to be caught out on the break, where Ollie Pitt was on hand to find Elijah Simpson at the back post who made no mistake with the goal at his mercy.
Listen below to the full match commentary…also, during the years Ryan has had to pronounce all sorts of names. Check out his horrific pronunciation of Brimscombe defender Chris Greenhough’s name.
Don’t miss out on day 5 of the Severn Sport 12 Days of Christmas tomorrow as we continue to take a look in the Severn Sport vault. Tomorrow we take a look at a 5 star performance from Gloucester City at Whaddon Road.
